A seductive and sensual Japanese drama that maintains sweetness. Do not watch this drama in public or on a plane; there are a few spicy scenes. But don’t worry, you can safely read all about it here! Rinko Wants to Try brings all the spice. I honestly passed this drama multiple times while browsing for a good drama. Let me tell you, that was a rookie mistake because it brings all the spice, tension, and drama that I look for in a “good watch.” I highly recomend this drama and its part of my spicy series.

A total of 8 Episodes with a duration of 24 minutes.

Storyline:
Rinko Amaki(Kaho Takada) is 27 years old. Rinko begins to feel the gap between herself and women her age. Rinko seems perfect and put together, except she has a secret that she desperately wants to get rid of…her virginity.
Gen Kamisaka (Shota Totsuka) is 27 years old. He easily attracts women’s attention with his good looks. Rinko is the only person who does not fawn over him. Although Gen has women eager to date him, he remains single, thinking about his first love.
Rinko and Gen work at a wedding planning company. Rinko is a hardworking wedding planner often overshadowed by Gen, who works in sales. They rarely interact but become aware of each other’s presence while drinking at a bar.
After a rough day, Rinko decides to stop for a drink. As she enters, she notices her co-worker Gen also having a drink. She confidently enters and pulls herself together. As she talks with the bartender, she realizes Gen is different from his usual self. The bartender is Gen’s childhood friend and reveals to Rinko that Gen is a virgin. In that moment, Rinko decides to lose her virginity to Gen! And so begins an intriguing pact of learning to discover themselves and each other’s bodies, but things don’t go as planned when they start to wonder if this pact could be more than a physical connection.

Rinko’s Fear of Imperfection:
Rinko is a highly successful and respected woman in her colleagues ‘ eyes. They describe her as the perfect woman, an image Rinko has worked hard to create. Rinko thrives on improving herself and attaining the title of chief wedding planner. She is a confident woman in everything except sex. Rinko herself does not care about losing her virginity, but feels the societal pressure to lose her virginity and fears what people will think of her when they find out she is inexperienced in bed. Her social environment became a huge factor in her insecurity. Her lack of physical connection plagues Rinko as she believes it is her biggest flaw.

When Rinko finds out the man she is interested in wants to date a mature and more experienced woman. A seed is planted in Rinko’s head when she connects “a more experienced woman” with someone who is sexually experienced. Once Rinko loses her virginity, she begins to question how different she truly is from before. However, she still lacks confidence in her ability to keep up her perfect image and proposes to keep sleeping with Gen. Rinko is truly childish. Perhaps her crazy ideas are meant to reflect the innocence of being a virgin during the first three episodes. Her character made me laugh a lot, but then had me in shambles. I truly felt her despair when she realized she was in love. Her fear, uncertainty, and longing were beaming through the screen. Ultimately, she was never a confident woman; she feared rejection and the idea of being imperfect. It became her weakness and her saving grace when she realized she had to take a risk or lose Gen.

Dilemmas in the Drama:
The drama explores the stigma surrounding virginity, the societal pressures of being a woman, and what physical connection means today. I love the drama’s shift into exploring intimacy with sexual encounters, and how it approaches topics of vulnerability and trust built on physical connections. The drama also explores what finding the perfect partner entails.
When Rinko feels like she has caught up and is no longer missing a piece of the puzzle to be complete, she realizes everyone is already at a different stage in life. The marriage stage. The real issue with Rinko is her desire to be on the same level or even better than everyone else. Rinko’s problems stem from her social life regarding relationships and building meaningful connections; she will not be able to feel satisfied because, in reality, she does not know what she wants or needs to feel fulfilled. Now, on a societal level, the problem is the pressure to have your life figured out by a certain age, the expectation of women in particular to be seen as desirable. To be the perfect marriage partner is important, but not on a shallow level, i.e., careers, age, family background. It should be based on compatibility, such as feeling like the person you are with feels like home, which is exactly what Rinko and Gen found in each other.

My favorite scenes are when Rinko is preparing herself for her first time. It is very innocent and cute in how she reads magazines, works out, and prepares the ambiance. Spoiler: I loved her little musical moment!

Gen’s Inability to Look Beyond the Surface:
Due to his good looks, many women sexualize him, including his co-workers. Although Gen is handsome in adulthood, the girls at his school mocked him during his teenage years. He was reserved and only focused on school. He began to believe that all girls who were loud and confident looked down on guys like him. When he meets Rinko, he instantly believes she is the same as the girls in his high school. He couldn’t stand her perfect image or illusion of it. The reason for Gen being a virgin is his unrequited first love. I really enjoyed his character he was honestly the perfect person for Rinko. Not only was he also a virgin but a true gentlemen. Gen always went along with Rinko and let her set all the rules. Gen is the first to catch feelings. He starts to hesitate when it comes to Rinko and Hiyama potential romance. Little by little we see his worry and jealousy grow. He never actively tries to stop Rinko from approaching Hiyama only suggest to stay with him. When he does mention that to Rinko and she ignored him he realizes his position in her life. We see the disapointment grow between who he is to Rinko and who he wants to become in her life. Gen is such a comforting character who always allowed Rinko to be herself and accepted her as she is. He allowed her to attain her feminine arura through his care and love that allowed her to flourish. She was able to show only Gen this side because he allowed her the space to feel and be loved.

Overall, this drama is cute, quirky at times and spicy! I loved those sweet intamite moments between the leads. I loved that their sensual scense werre filled with warmth and intamicy. It was nicely done and provactive enough for the imagination.
