***trigger warning, the movie does deal with attempted sexual assault of a character although not graphic it could be upsetting****

I want to start by stating how much I love PEACH GIRL! I occasionally think about this movie more than I should. It still surprises me and never fails to make me love it over again. I highly recommend you watch this one!

The movie revolves around Momo(Yamamoto Mizuki), a high school girl, mad crushing on Toji(Mackenyu)Students at school tease Momo regarding her as an easy girl. Toji and Momo eventually start dating, but “friends” start to get in the way, and soon they break up. Kairi(Inno Kei) becomes the center of Momo’s world, and the fight between Toji and Kairi begins in order to win Momo’s heart. However, not everything is as it seems. Everything and everyone is not as simple or innocent as they make it seem. To make things better this movie’s second lead becomes a first lead and rightfully so! Muh!

Why I love this movie:

Honestly, two words, Okayasu Kairi, He is the sweetest, cutest, most supportive second lead that’s ever been known in movies. Trust me; you will understand what I mean if you watch the movie. I mean, he’s not only Momo’s number one fan, but he’s also invested in his own life and has his dreams. And trust me, his dreams have Momo written all over them. I cry each time, and I will cry again. I love the relationship developed between Kairi and Momo. This movie is dear to my heart and if you haven’t watched it yet you’re missing out! One of the best coming of age movies in my opinion.

What I learned from this movie:

It’s hard to understand people who did you wrong, but it’s easy to forgive them if they genuinely mean well. I think this movie does an excellent job of redeeming evil characters. Momo is a friend I aspire to have and be. She is willing to risk and help her friend (Mei) after everything that’s been said and done. And if you watch the movie, you’ll know what I am referring too—some very questionable friend actions. Mei is a sad character, and I don’t hate her or think she deserves what happens to her in the movie. As for Kairi’s older brother, he can rot in hell. Toji is also a character I didn’t expect to love, hate, then love again. His actions were all over the place. Although I’m afraid I have to disagree with his actions, in the beginning, he did learn what it means to honestly wish someone well.

Kairi and Momo:

What can I say Mom and Kairi support each other’s hopes and dreams. Defend each other in every way possible. Their love started weird and almost hysterically, but Kairi is a pure soul. And Momo is a hard headed person with a strong personality, but she’s a solid character. I love how they vouch for each other regardless of how it affects them. They make great friends and lovers too!

***Spoiler Alert***

Kairi’s character:

Kairi is portrayed as a rich spoiled brat who’s a playboy. He is always surrounded by girls yet his eyes are only on Momo. Throughout the movie we begin to learn about Kairi as a person. As sweet and amazing as he is, Kairi has an unfortunate past. His family misunderstands his to the point it affects him. They don’t know what he loves. What he dreams and they don’t care. He is very much ignored. Kairi is a sad character; he lost his Mom and often mentioned her to his father, who doesn’t seem to care. He’s loved someone before, Momo. And on the day he meets Momo, Kairi attempted to end his life. But Momo, brought him back to life, literally. Kairi gets a second chance at life, and meeting Momo blessed both of their lives. They were there for each other when they most needed someone to be there. And yet Kairi is such a loving person.

Momo’s Character:

Momo is a strong girl; she’s been teased about her skin and hair since she has a darker complexion ( bizarre aspect of the movie). She’s called a slut, easy, and still, she remains strong. She’s often betrayed in the movie yet she is always such a good character. She never lashes out; she tries to understand people who’ve hurt her. Although she didn’t like Kairi, in the beginning, she recognized Kairi, his efforts, and the person was indeed beside her through hard times. Momo may not know what she wants all the time but she sure knows how to make good decisions.

I didn’t focus much on Mei and other side characters. They were great, but I wanted to focus on the main characters as I like their storyline the best and made me love Peach girl.
