I want to begin by stating this drama is a sweet first love story that started in a misunderstanding. But their love story ended with lots and lots of love to last a lifetime for our leads. Regardless of how painful it may be for those who continue moving forward while others stay forever in time as they once were.

The Sadness in the drama:
I realize this drama can be triggering for some as it deals with losing a loved one. But it can also be very healing at the same time. I think its worth a watch, although many fans are sad, I think it’s important to realize in real life; people do lose loved ones. And sometimes, love ends unannounced for whatever reason. There are many different types of everlasting love, and this story is one of them. The type of love that never got to be continued or ended. A love so painful and beautiful.

The drama revolves around Xiang Hao Ting(Wayne Song) and Yu Xi Gu(Huang Juan Zhi) during the time they met as seniors in high school.
I loved how their love is portrayed in this 3rd installment of HIStory. Our main leads are impulsive, childish, cute, and new to loving someone of the same sex. It’s so beautiful just how much they fight to be together. Doing everything they can to make it work. It also touches the subject of intimacy, and boy is there a lot of it, which I did not see much of in HIStory3: Trapped. This drama just made me fall in love with their love and broke it tremendously. But I would say, the last ep is really healing. It’s sad but nicely closed as an open ending in terms of how and when Xiang Hao Ting will move forward but never forgetting his first true love.

Of course, there are some aspects of the drama that aren’t perfect. For example, there is forced kissing and pressure for intimacy. Along with unspoken, regard for a considerable age gap between a high school student and a clearly much older man.

The beautiful in the drama:
The reason I love this drama is how happy they both made each other. They were both very different people when they first met. By the middle, they were both changing and facing things they did not want to accept. Regardless they move forward for each other to live for a better future. By the end of the drama, we see the most significant change of all. We see our once goofy and lovable Xiang Hao Ting suddenly change the tune of his whole life. And Yu Xi Gu is untimely reunited with his late parents. Xiang Hao Ting, it seems he now lives how his dearly beloved first love would have lived out his own life. They both gave each other the happiest days of their lives and lived it together. Them meeting each other really changed both of their lives, but it also filled it with lots of joy and love.

I really enjoyed watching the second leads love story. Sun Bo Xiang(Wilson Liu), and Lu Zhi Gang(Thomas Chang). They met in Sun Bo’s cousin’s gym. They surprisingly matched each other very well. One is persistent in love, and the other is more calm and rational. They encouraged each other to do better in their areas of weakness. Sun Bo Xiang is greatly influenced by his boyfriend to continue his education while Lu Zhi Gang is supported to go back home and try to get his family’s approval by Sun Bo. After not seeing his family since they found out about his past relationship. I loved that by the end, they are both still together still going strong, diminishing the idea that age gaps affect relationships or won’t last because of the age difference. I also loved that Sun Bo Xiang is the one to make things official all the time. For someone so young, he is really mature and proactive in claiming his man’s heart.

The only thing I would have changed is how it randomly skipped to a few years after the passing of Yu Xi Gu, and we see a young guy that looks like Xiang Hao Ting’s late boyfriend. It was just all too sudden, and the explanation is poorly done. The last ep is long yet seemed so short to wrap everything up nicely. Sadly, There’s more questions than answers in the last ep. Regardless, I would give this drama a go. It brought me endless smiling, laughing, and sadly crying, but I don’t regret watching this drama at all. That is why I hope you decide to give this drama a chance.

What are your opinions on the ending? Did you like the drama or wish you’d skipped this one?
