Theory of Love (2019) is still currently airing, and it’s so good I have to recommend it now! I found it on Youtube the week it started airing and have not been able to get over it. The story revolves around four university students in the faculty of Common Arts. Third ( Gun) meets Khai ( Off) during a game in the welcoming party for first-year students. That is when Third begins a deep, long, secret love for Khai. Khai and Third become close friends with Two ( White) and Bone ( Mike). They’re known for their good looks and expertise within their department. Which, of course, attracts a lot of attention. Khai is a player, and oblivious to Thirds love. Third knows it’s impossible between him and Khai since Khai is straight. Third, decides to stop loving Khai…

Khai starts to feel the loss of Third’s presences

Why you should watch it:
Anyone who has had a one-sided love or, had to give up due to their friendship getting jeopardized this drama contains that angst you’ve felt. And if you haven’t, you will know what it’s like to feel that way. The acting is amazing. Third (Gun) is a brilliant actor who showcases so much emotion just through his eyes! Khai (Off) is so good at being a jerk in this drama you will want to punch your screen! This drama explores the love between friends, same-sex partners, and the universal difficulty of unrequited love. The pain and emotions Third feel’s when Khai is around and battling the reality of being an outsider in Khai’s world of passion is evident. Often, it’s clear that Khai has no interest in dating men, but his actions are subtle and borderline crossing that line in terms of affection towards Third. That confusion keeps Third hopeful that someday Khai will too love him back.
So far it’s focusing on Thirds secret love and his hardship to be only friends with Khai. Ep 1-6 will explore Third’s emotions and point of view. Ep 7-12 will focus on Khai’s perspective and feelings. Every Saturday a new ep is available on their youtube page. English Subs get released on Monday.

Reasons I love this drama so much:
I love that it focuses on their studies as film students as much as their love lives. Khai and Two’s sexuality is not clear as of now, but I love how it’s introduced as them merely falling in love regardless of past partners or love interest. Two is always supporting Third. He’s always on his side and helps Third when he’s at his low. Finally, I love Third so much! He is so genuine and loves khai foolishly. Every time Third is crying, I am bawling my heart out! I am always on your side, Third. There is a lot of truth to Third’s inner monologue that resonates with the feelings of falling in and out of love and what it means to love and be loved.

Why I hate that I love this drama:
Khai!!!!!! He drives me insane. I can’t help but dislike him, but I really cannot hate him because I understand Khai does not feel the same about Third in the beginning. Off is so good at playing Khai it’s ridiculous! Halfway through the drama Khai lets the audience into his world and shares his true thoughts, fears, and regrets making us further understand Khai. It’s easy to hate Khai in the beginning, but it’s hard not to love khai as the episodes progress. Essentially, I hate that I am beginning to love Khai.

Khai realizes how he’s hurt Third after getting treated in the same manner.

Friendships and Sexuality:
The sexuality of their characters is very ambiguous. Its clear most of these male characters who love each other also have intimacy and are in love with women as well. There is a beautiful understanding that love is love in this drama. When Two discovers that Third is in love with Khai, instead of freaking out, he helps Third win Khai’s heart. Never once does Third loving another man become problematic or change the dynamic between friendships. That is a plus for me. A romantic drama, after all, is just love and angst! Haha! The bond between these four men is beautiful and robust. Throughout the drama, they all face different challenges and aspects of love but never fail to be there for each other, and I appreciate that aspect of the drama.

Warning:
You will cry a river of tears. The music is excellent, and the cinematography is to die for, and often classic films are referenced.
